The Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite consists of advanced driver-assist systems that will help keep you safe on the road. The good news is that this sophisticated suite is now included as standard equipment on most new Toyota vehicles. Here’s a short overview of some of the systems that are included with the TSS suite.an explanation of the 2020 toyota safety sense features

Pre-Collision With Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)

The PCS w/PD system employs your vehicle’s forward-facing camera, as well as a grille-mounted radar or laser sensor to scan the area in front of your vehicle for pedestrians, bicycles, or other vehicles that may pose a collision threat. If the system detects the possibility of a frontal collision, it issues an audio and visual alert to prompt the driver to take action.

If the driver applies brakes, the system may add additional braking force through the Brake Assist system. If the driver doesn’t apply the brakes in time, the system will take over and do so automatically. By reducing your speed, this system may decrease the severity of an accident or may completely prevent a collision.

Lane Departure Alert (LDA)

The LDA system uses the vehicle’s forward-facing camera to monitor for possible lane departure. If the system detects that the vehicle is moving outside of its lane, it will warn the driver through an audio and visual alert. If you drive a Toyota that’s equipped with Electronic Power Steering (EPS), the LDA system will work together with Steering Assist to automatically make small corrections to the steering when lane departure is detected.

This system will only work within certain limitations. Firstly, you have to travel at a speed of 32 mph or more before it activates. Secondly, the road you’re driving on must be relatively straight and must have clear lane markings.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

DRCC is a sophisticated cruise control system that makes use of the vehicle’s forward-facing camera and a grille-mounted radar sensor. It automatically adjusts your vehicle’s speed so that you maintain a preset distance from other vehicles in front of you. This means that if a car in front of you slows down, the system will automatically slow down your vehicle to maintain a safe distance without deactivating cruise control.

If the system detects the need for you to slow down even more, it will notify you through an alert and will automatically apply the brakes. Once the vehicle in front of you accelerates or turns off, the system will once again return your vehicle to the preset speed.

Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)

The LTA system actually prevents your vehicle from veering out of its lane in the first place. This system works together with the DRCC system to monitor lane markings and automatically correct steering inputs when possible lane departure is detected. As is the case with the LDA system, this system will only work if lane markings are clearly visible. In addition, the driver’s hands need to remain on the steering wheel at all times.
